Burj Beitin (Bethel)

Also known as Bethel, al-Burj Beitin

A twelfth-century tower at Burj Beitin, identified by some with biblical Bethel. The tower sits inside a rectangular enclosure and was held at various times by ecclesiastical lords of the kingdom. Substantial walls survive on the hill above the modern village of Beitin.
