al-Bira (Magna Mahumeria)

Also known as Birra, Castrum Maome/Mahomaria, Magna

Al-Bira, next to Ramallah, was the Crusader 'new town' of Magna Mahumeria, a planned Frankish settlement attached to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. At its lower end stood a small castle or tower with a barrel-vaulted basement. The parish church of Magna Mahumeria is still partially visible beneath later buildings in al-Bira.
