Scandelion Castle (Shamaa)

Conical-hill castle in Shamaa built by Baldwin I in 1116 (some sources 1124) to command the coastal approach to Tyre. Its walls and flanking towers gave sweeping views down the littoral as far as Naqoura, allowing early warning of any maritime or overland threat against the greatest of the northern Galilean ports.
