Saint Louis Castle (Sidon)
Also known as Qalaat al Muizz, Sidon Land Castle, Château Saint-Louis

Landward counterpart to the Sidon Sea Castle, perched on Sidon's ancient acropolis over a tenth-century Fatimid citadel, itself built on demolished classical structures. The site was devastated by an Ayyubid attack in 1249, and completely reconstructed in 1254 by French Crusaders during Louis IX's occupation of the city. Together with the Sea Castle it made Sidon one of the most imposing Frankish strongholds on the coast until it was sacked by the Mongols under Kitbuqa in 1260.
