Kurdani (Ein Afek Mills), tower, in Na'aman River, near Acre, Israel

Kurdani — known as Doc or Recordane in the Crusader sources — was an important milling and sugar-production complex on the Na'aman River a few kilometres east of Acre. Water-powered mills ground flour and processed sugar cane for the kingdom's economy. The site was also the scene of a sharp engagement during Saladin's campaign around Acre in 1189. Substantial remains of dams, water channels, and vaulted mill buildings survive today in the Ein Afek Nature Reserve.
