Chapel of the Ascension (Jerusalem)

Rebuilt by the Crusaders around 1150 on the summit of the Mount of Olives at the traditional site of Christ's ascension. Saladin's armies took the hill in 1187 and converted the complex into a mosque, but the Crusader-built octagonal shrine (the edicule) survives intact — it still houses the 'Ascension Rock' and today serves as an Islamic shrine shared for Christian pilgrimage.
