Bait 'Itab

A striking fortified hall-house on a ridge in the Judean hills west of Jerusalem, built in the twelfth century as a small Frankish manor. A slit machicolation and a draw-bar protected the ground-floor entrance while vaulted rooms and a central courtyard served the lord's household. The ruins still crown the hilltop beside the modern village of Nes Harim.
